What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a strong, permanent replacement for one or more missing teeth. The dental implant itself is a small titanium post or screw that is surgically placed into the jawbone at the site of the missing tooth. This replaces the missing tooth root and provides a stable foundation for the dental implant restoration. We then allow a period of healing, which usually lasts a few months. During this time, the jawbone begins to fuse with the dental implant to strengthen the restoration. Our talented dentist will then place an attachment called an abutment on top of the implant. The implant restoration is then attached to the abutment to complete the implant process. Depending on how many teeth are missing and on your specific dental needs, your implant restoration may be a dental crown, a dental bridge, a full denture or a partial denture.
